Lovely house on the top of a mountain.
Having never stayed on a mountain, I wasn't sure what to expect. This property sits at the top of Thunderbird Mountain. The road on Thunderbird Mountain is a narrow 1 way road with no guard rails and no reflectors. We were able to navigate it with no issues in our Jeep Gladiator in good weather, even though some of the turns were tight. My son affectionately called Thunderbird Mountain ... "Sketch Mountain". Flat land on a mountain top is scarce. Most houses are built on stilts in the air on the side of the mountain with no yard. We had to walk our dogs each night as the only flat area was the gravel driveway. The view from the property was AMAZING!!! It's a million dollar view. I now understand why the Smokey Mountains are called "smokey". Each night we watched the clouds dust the mountain tops. I also understand why the Blue Ridge Mountains are called "blue". The ridges of the farthest mountain peaks turned blue each night as the sun descended. Wow. Just wow. Most of our adventures took us an hour or two away from the property. We drove the curvaceous Cherohala Skyway from Robbinsville, NC to Tellico Plains, TN. We took a detour off the Cherohala Skyway to a gravel road at Stratton Gap retracing the route of an early settler named Absalom Strutton. The trek on this amazing gravel road in the valley was a hidden gem and a fantastic jeep adventure. We ventured to Bryson City to ride the Great Smokey Mountain Railway over the Nantahala Gorge. My son enjoyed the train ride most of all. Lastly, we drove to Dry Waterfalls and Bridal Veil Falls. Both were stunning. Honestly, Highway 28 to the waterfalls may have MORE curves than the Cherohala Skyway! This property was a lovely house on top of a mountain and a great base camp for our family to explore the area.

Beautiful home and view!
My husband and I along with my sister-in-law and German Shepard spent a week at the property. The house was exactly as advertised. It was spotless and thoughtfully stocked with all the essentials you may need during your stay. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. And the view was beautiful! Morning coffee on the deck was perfect. We enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit many evenings during our stay. The location was good.. the town of Robbinsville had a nice grocery store and a few casual restaurants. We explored Joyce Kilmer Forest, a few close by waterfalls, and the Cherohala Skyway. The Great Smoky Mountain NP is about an hour away. The ride up the mountain to the house was a little scary the first time but was no big deal after a couple trips up and down. Overall a great home base for exploring the Smoky Mountains!

Glorious view of Lake Santeetlah and surrounding mountains
We loved our week long stay, with our dogs! The place was super roomy and beautiful, all our needs were met, plus the gorgeous view from windows but mostly the huge back deck rounded it all out! Then, there were smores at the fire pit and the brand new hot tub! The owner was responsive when we had a dip in water pressure. We would love to go back!

Wonderful views!!
Bear’s View was outstanding. The home sits atop Thunderbird Mountain overlooking Lake Santeetlah. The views are amazing with wrap around decks on both levels to look down on the lake and long range mountains. The main level has a master bedroom with tub and walk-in shower. The main deck is also on this level which was good for gampie who has mobility issues. The deck has ring toss, a new grill, and great furniture so that most of our time was spent outside. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. And there are TV’s with direct tv in every room. The downstairs level has another full Living room, two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The kids room has two singles. The review says room for 6, but I think if the owner ever decides to put bunk beds in the kids room, it would be a cabin for 8 easily. Two families of four as we sometimes need. And there is another large deck off this lower level with swing chairs. The new owners have clearly down some nice work adding a hot tub, fire ring, and sitting area around the fire ring. The house was amazing. Graham County is a dry county so plan accordingly. But the Historic Tapoco Lodge, which is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner, does serve adult beverages. We highly recommend eating at the Lodge. Great food! There are two places to rent boats which was a great day out. We found some rope swings and rocks for the kids to jump off all around the lake. Highly recommend the short hike to Yellow Creek Falls to swim in the swimming hole at the base of the falls. The hike is short but a little rugged for a bit. And the cabin is close to Bryson City, Fontana, the Nantahala Outdoor Center, and The Tail of the Dragon. Highly recommend for families with young kids rafting on the Nantahala. Very tame River. And highly recommend eating at the The Big Wesser and The Rivers End, both at the NOC. Nothing but good things to say about Bear’s View. Thank you for the stay!

Best View on Earth
We've been coming to Lake Santeetlah for 26 years and we believe it's the most beautiful place on earth. Bear's View Cabin capitalizes on the natural beauty and adds the touch of a great host. The Johnsons have a beautiful home and generously share all the little things that make a stay so much nicer. From the Sonos speakers to the Yeti coffee mugs, you'll feel like a cared-for guest while staying here. We loved the hot tub, the space heater on the deck, and feeling like we were tucked in the woods by ourselves. Oh, and have I mentioned the view? Five stars, two thumbs up, we'd definitely stay here again.
