The Oliver House at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument

The Oliver House is located within the historic Goodman Point area and sits on the family farm with expansive views in all directions. The home, built in 1965, is in its original state and is well kept, clean, and provides an authentic rural SW Colorado experience. This 1600 sq. ft. home has three bedrooms, one bath, a spacious living area, fire place, full kitchen, dining room, and full service laundry room. Enjoy the solitude as you watch the sun rise over the beautiful LaPlata Mountains, and the sun set over Utah’s Blue Mountains. The Sleeping Ute Mountain is close by to the south and the Lone Cone in the distance to the north. Depending on the season, bare witness to tractors working ground in the fields and livestock grazing in the pastures

Located on a sparsely populated paved country road, the house is 1 mile from the Canyon of the Ancients National Monument Sand Canyon Trail Head. Enjoy riding your ATV or mountain bike on the dirt roads and trails within the Monument or take a hike on the Sand Canyon Trail in search of Puebloan ruins. The house is located two hours from Moab, Utah and Telluride, CO, one hour from Mesa Verde National Park, and less then an hour from the San Juan National Forest. Within a 30 minute drive there are boating and fishing opportunities on Narraguinnep and McPhee reservoirs, and world class single track mountain biking at Phil’s World and Boggy Draw trail systems.

The possibilities are endless, but the main attraction might just be the quiet solitude of real country living. We look forward to having you visit. Just drive carefully and watch for the local deer population on your way to the Oliver House.

Relax with a view!
I wanted to visit Mesa Verde again after 29 years. The Oliver House was perfect for our family. It was 35 minutes from the park gate, had a fenced in back yard for our two dogs, and a patio made for grilling and enjoying an uninterrupted view of the mountains. We arrived later than expected due to stopped traffic on the highway. We found chocolate on the kitchen table to help lift the mood and cold water in the fridge. I forgot lotion…no problem! A small bottle of body lotion was provided in the bathroom. One of us forgot their toothbrush, there were two packaged toothbrushes and toothpaste in the drawer. Snacks were available in the kitchen as well as coffee, spices, and oils. Everything was well organized and extremely clean. I didn’t want to leave this beautiful setting.

Cortez visit
We loved our stay at the Oliver house. Everything was as described and Kelly was very easy to work with. Depending on your activities, the house is a bit out of the way from the main highway. For us it was fine, but do map it so you know ahead of time. We would recommend Oliver house to friends. Thanks Kelly!

Private, Comfortable, Relaxing
This house was a wonderful place to get away and relax. A beautiful 360degree view, acreage, farming, mountains, paved roads, quiet, and comfortable. The house is furnished with everything you need. Owners live not far in case you need anything and are super nice to deal with. We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. It was perfect! Not far from Cortez and Dolores, plenty of things to see and do in the area. It was a pleasure!

Oliver a house is a wonderful place to stay.
We loved staying at the Oliver house. Kelly was a wonderful host. The house was roomy enough for 6 people. The house was clean and well stocked of misc items. When we walked thru the door it felt like coming home. Was very nice to have washer/dryer on the property. The view was awesome. Horses out the back, deer running thru the field, closest neighbor 1/4 mile away. Close enough to Cortez for groceries, eat out etc. Would highly recommend staying at the Oliver house. You won’t be disappointed!!

Amazing rural property, expansive views
So amazing, I cant say enough good words about our family's experience at this house. We spent 4th of July here and fire works were visible in all directions. So many National Parks are accessible from this location. Kelly, the host, was very helpful and offered many great recommendations for holiday activities, and adventures around the house. We cant wait to return for another visit, the property is such a gem in this area.

A place of peace
Our family has stayed at many VRBOs and I can't think of one that compares to the Oliver House. We are in the process of moving our family from Oregon to Texas and it's been a rough process to say the least. We arrived at the Oliver House the day that our moving truck, with all of our worldly possessions, had been stolen from our hotel parking lot in Salt Lake City. We were so comforted by the reminders of God's goodness and grace that we found all over the house. I was also very moved by the honor that was clearly given to the people that had built the house many years ago. The house was incredibly clean but also very notably a sanctuary of faith and love. When we had to leave a day early to drive back to Salt Lake to retrieve our truck and what was left of our possessions that had been recovered by the police, Kelly was kind enough to refund our money for the night we were unable to stay. This was her idea and was both unexpected and very generous. I hope that you will find the same peace at the Oliver House that our family found.

Wonderful hospitality, clean and well equipped personal home with everything you need. Amazing views of countryside and walk to canyons of the ancients was cool. A bit of a drive to downtown Cortez, it was very quiet and private. Special bonus was a call from owner that they were moving cows through the intersection so we sat on porch and watched the cowhands.

Views for days
Myself, my mom and sister spent Christmas here and what a wonderful time we had! First they are dog friendly so our Gracie had a blast running around and exploring. Second the house was very well stocked and it was great to be able to cook all our meals on site. The views were awesome and I loved the beautiful sunrises every morning.

We really enjoyed staying at Oliver House. It has all the charm of the original owners and it very clean. It is also perfectly situated for exploring the upper canyons. The owners were very quick to respond to our communication, but gave us complete privacy at the house.

Such an amazing property. The owner makes you feel like you are staying at your families extra house. Location is great and if you have dogs, BOOK NOW!!!! they can run and explore as long as you watch them. We will definitely recommend to friends and family. One of the best VRBO we have stayed at, if not THE best.

If you're looking for peace and quiet amongst the ancient puebloan ruins, this is the place.
Peace and quiet, dark night skies, amazing distance views, the Oliver House has it all. Close to the north end of the Sand Canyon trail in Canyon of the Ancients, this is a great place for your base-camp. The house has all the amenities you need - big kitchen, comfortable living room with a nice TV, good bbq grill and back porch. One bathroom so plan accordingly. You see Sleeping Ute Mtn, Mesa Verde and the La Platas from this property. Kelly is an excellent hostess and makes sure everything is in order. We plan to come back as we love to explore the ruins and canyons in the fall. Thank you Kelly!
