Great home away from home
We were very happy with the location and the home in general. It was well maintained, had a great floorplan with plenty of storage space, and had a well stocked kitchen which is rare for the rentals I have been in before. It also had plenty of seating in the main room for our group which was really nice. I was a little disappointed that they listed a shuttle as part of the rental which was not the case when we arrived. It ended up not being too much of an issue which is why I kept my rating high. We actually visited Durango this summer and were looking to purchase a place there and I loved the area.

Great Property Close to all the Action
We were looking for a place to hike and explore in southwest Colorado and knew we wanted to go to Silverton and Ouray. We had our dog with us for the hikes so this pet friendly location was perfect for us. We even found great hikes right outside the front door on the Purgatory Creek Trail and at the Purgatory resort. This was a perfect location for us to get to our hiking destinations within 30 minutes to an hour.

Great location, property needs attention
Overall, our stay was great - the property is across the street from Purgatory Resort and includes a shuttle service which was always punctual and very useful for making trips back & forth to ski. The property has a nice layout and was quite clean. Unfortunately, a couple of items were noticed that need some attention: 1. Upon arrival we turned on the oven to cook dinner and it was apparently not clean as it immediately started emitting smoke throughout the kitchen (note: smoke detectors did not go off either) 2. The second bedroom had a bed which was quite well used and soft, along with a bed cover that had holes in it 3. The fridge filter did not work 4. The internet had very low bandwidth and disconnected regularly The property management service was great as there were frequent and informative communications (emails, texts) on access, amenities, check-out procedure, etc. Again, overall it was a great stay, however it would have been much better had a number of updates been made to the home to improve the quality of the stay.

Five-star stay at BlackBear!
Our family of four stayed in this awesome unit for a recent ski trip to Purgatory. The unit is beautifully decorated and furnished with everything we could possibly have needed. The proximity to the ski resort, including on-demand shuttle access, enabled us to come and go as needed without having to drive in or worry about parking. We had lots of great snow during our stay, and our driveway was plowed every day. They really have thought of everything!

Ideal vacation for skiing, especially since it was perfect weather!
While the rest of the country was in a deep freeze, we were in perfect weather, sunny, low 40's, no wind! A couple of nitpicks, though (and this may be directed towards previous renters who don't care to get them fixed as well as the owners). There were several problems, none of which were showstoppers (fireplace pilot light was out, downstairs TV wasn't working correctly, some utensils were dirty, etc.). I know it would be difficult for the cleaners to know about the TV, but dirty spatulas, spoons, etc., should be checked by them. The information on VRBO was accurate regarding access to the ski area. The shuttle was very quick since they weren't that busy. However, what the information doesn't show is that there is a maximum per day for using the shuttle. Also, walking across the highway was an option, especially for the snowboarders in there near-normal boots compared to skiers in their torture boots. Overall, we would definitely stay there again!

Nice place to get away to the mountains
Place was nice and acceptably clean, especially for house that allows pets. Love the location because we like to fish mountain lakes and also ride Jeep trails, so was perfect for us. Our 19 year old son loved the ping pong table. Love having 3 bathrooms! That’s a plus. Kitchen was adequate for cooking. We cooked breakfast and supper daily. Longways from restaurants, so cooking is a must. It’s noisy being on highway 550 during the day with the windows open. Hardly any traffic at night except few car so can leave windows open while sleeping. It has extremely hard water and would recommend bringing own drinking water. If looking for place to stay in mountains would recommend, it’s a nice place.

Great Family Time
The property is in a great location. It was clean and nicely furnished. We cooked lot and enjoyed the great room and kitchen being open to each other. There were enough towels, shampoo etc for the four nights stay, although their was only one kitchen towel and no dish rag. We were very comfortable with a family of 6. Beds were comfortable and clean. On the negative side the fire place was not working and after two calls to maintenance who promised to fix it we gave up. The fireplace not working was quite a disappointment as in November it would have taken the chill off in the morning and the ambience was not as shown in the pictures. The appliances worked well except the dishwasher did not clean the dishes unless we scrubbed them before they went in the dishwasher. It’s probably time to replace it. We loved the area with the ski run right across the street and a pretty lake that we walked to. The kids played on the play structure by the lake and had a great time. Everyone played ping pong in the garage which was a lot of fun. Management might want to do a walk through prior to renting the property to insure that everything is working correctly. We would stay at this property again.

Great Escape
This property is located right across for Purgatory ski resort (you can walk across the street to it) and about a 35-min drive into the town of Durango. The drive to the place is gorgeous along hwy 550. The property itself is very clean, quiet, spacious, and has a well-stocked kitchen of all the supplies needed to cook meals. Check in and out was a breeze. The only downside is the fireplaces are turned off by Purgatory in the summer. No A/C but we kept the windows open, keeping the inside temps nice and cool. We felt very safe here given the doors and garages are locked by codes. The place was cozy, clean and comfortable. All in all, 5/5.

Great Stay!
Amazing property with all the comforts of home! There is very well stocked kitchen which made cooking our dinners very easy! It is a convenient drive to Durango or Silverton! (We enjoyed both)! The road noise took one night to adjust to in the master bedroom, but it wasn’t a problem. The ping pong table was so much fun as well! It was the perfect stay for my family!

Was a great location for day trips to silverton, ouray, and telluride. Lots to do within 20 min to downtown Durango as well. House was clean and well stocked. Only gripe is the ceiling fan in the master makes a bunch of noise but wasn’t the end of the world. Would definitely stay again

The property is located across the street from the Purgatory Ski area and is close to both Durango and Silverton. There is a wonderful path around a small lake and park within walking distance as well as a hiking trail...great for walking the dog. Plenty of light, modern furniture and space. The unit was very clean and we would stay here again.

Loved the On-Demand Shuttle
The best feature about this rental is the on demand shuttle - it was an excellent service. My husband was injured on our last day and they were so helpful in getting him to Urgent Care and getting us back to our condo. The worst feature was the smell of gas in the condo. When we called the maintenance phone number we were informed it had been a problem for weeks and he could not figure out why there was an odor and offered us air fresheners. The management company told us we could go elsewhere, or we could open the windows and leave on the fireplaces to vent out the condo. We left open the windows through our entire stay and the smell did get less pronounced but never went away. There must be a problem somewhere. Some of the dishes in the cabinets were dirty, so check before you use them. The toilet on the main floor is not secure (it rocks) so beware before sitting down. The master bedroom and the room with the bunkbeds were nice, but the other bedroom had a horrible bed. My husband and I had to sleep on the bunkbeds. The condo was very large and comfortable with fantastic views. Unfortunately, most of the blinds did not stay up. We did knock on doors to see if other condos had the gas odor and none of the other people we spoke to had the problem. One couple even came into our condo and they noted the smell of gas as well. I would stay in the Black Bear condos again but not in 86 due to the gas odor.

Great location, great cabin!
This cabin exceeded our expectations! We came to Purgatory as a family of 4 to ski for spring break, and we could not have asked for a more comfortable and convenient place to stay. We have stayed across at the resort, but most of the units are smaller and need updating and cleaning. This place was the best of both worlds - SUPER convenient to the slopes with the ski shuttle, but also newer, cleaner, and more spacious. The furnishings were beautiful and new and comfortable. The overall cabin was very clean. The ski shuttle was outstanding ... once you call, they are at your door in minutes. We hope to stay here again!

We had a wonderful time. It was so nice to come home to a beautiful home. The views were incredible! The street we were on was quiet and we could walk our dogs easily and take them up to a few empty lots to play. The shuttle service to/from the mountain was quick and reliable. We would love to rent again.

Christmas Vacation
Our family had the best Christmas Vacation!! The condo was so nice and very accommodating to all of our needs. It is bigger than what we expected by looking at the pictures and the location is excellent!! The ski on demand call in service was a great bonus. Loved the warm garage to unload all of our ski gear and the kids had a great time playing ping pong! I would highly recommend staying here with a big family! We had 7 in our group plus our small dog!

Lovely mountain home!
My friends and I had a lovely time at this property. It was within walking distance of a gorgeous unmissable hike, and easily accessible to downtown Durango (about 25 minutes drive). The property was close to a loud road, but the windows and doors made it very soundproof. The wifi was a bit spotty, so I would use caution if planning to work from home here. The pool had a gorgeous view of the mountains, and was family friendly (read: lots of children!). It was clean, well-appointed, comfortable, and the master bedroom was very private. I would certainly recommend!
