It's a nice hotel with helpful and friendly staff. Close to Amsterdam Centraal station and lots of cool shops nearby. Only downside is it's not wheelchair accessible.

The staff were very nice and accommodating. I had mostly no issues besides the stairs leading up to the room. But, the room was very clean and after the renovation it looked great. The bathroom was excellent but the room seemed to keep the humidity and warm which made it hard to stay in it during the day. There was an air condition but it was too much to use it. I did enjoy my stay there overall.

I stayed there 14 days. Hotel was very clean and cleaning crew was very thorough. Desk staff was outstanding, professional, friendly, helpful. I had a health issue beginning day 5 through end of my stay. Desk staff knowing this, brought a tray with hot tea and cup of ice to help with inflammation of my lungs each evening. The most amazing thing was when I went to checkout. A young man about 24 was behind the counter. He knew my situation and insisted to bring my 2 40 pound bags from my second floor room to the lobby. Once he did, he said his shift was over in 20 minutes and he was going to Amsterdam Central as well for his 45-minute train ride home. He insisted on taking my bags for me all the way to Amsterdam Central, a 15 minute walk. The young man not only wheeled my bags to the train station, but he took me to the kiosk to be sure I got the right train ticket, and even though it would make him miss his train and have to wait 35 minutes for another train, he took my and my luggage to the very spot where the train would pick me up and where I could be assured to get a seat. Where do you find such people today? Hotel Van Gelder. My deepest thanks and gratitude. If I ever return to Amsterdam, Hotel Van Gelder would be my only choice.

We loved the location of the property, and our room was comfortable. But when we went to shower in the morning, the handle came off and water shot horizontally at us. We were jet lagged and had slept in too late, so we didn’t have time to find an alternative. So we left with no showers.

Asked to have room NOT entered directly to staff. Blonde woman at front desk (later found was owner) told them to go in anyways. Booked this hotel 3 months in advance and was given room on FOURTH FLOOR...no elevator, very steep steps. Only good thing about this is the services provided by the two men who work the front desk. You must be in VERY GOOD shape just to get to the reception desk on the 2nd floor...then many more steps up to your room.

This is great as it is so close to the station, and comfortable, clean rooms. I was pleased I had a small backpack as there were many stairs to climb :-)

The picture when I booked online looked way more updated that the room I actually got. The staff were wonderful and the service was amazing. The room was very dark with a lot of wood. The location was amazing. And I cannot say enough great things about the staff.

hotel Van Gelder has a great location. Some of the rooms are recently remodeled and very nice, but a bit spartan. Depending on your room location, the stairs can be a bit challenging, especially with luggage, and if there is any physical limitations, such as old knees!

The hotel doesn’t have elevator and the stairs are too tiny to walk wit your suitcases. They charged Us $20 dollars more at the moment We did check in, was a surprise because We already paid in advance when booked our stay there isn’t a notice can aware Us to pay extra money

Good location. The property is extremely outdated and I am surprised it is allowed to be a hotel. No phone. No AC. No mini fridge. Nothing is included. 2/5.
