Bad experience overall but good intentions from owner.
Our party ranged from 9 months old to 84 years old with 11 of us in total. We all drove up in a total of 4 vehicles. We arrived on a Friday and leave Monday. The good: We asked for an early check in and got it. The house met our expectations based on the pictures, the location was fairly easy to get to. There was only one roll of paper towels in the house and the owner brought over a large pack of paper towels a short while later. Now the bad: There is an attached apartment or MIL suite that we were not aware of when we booked the house. There was a strong fuel odor in the house, we somewhat expected there to be some odor due to fuel oil being hun used to heat many homes but this odor was very noticeable. We then saw a fuel trailer (used to fill various homes heating fuel tanks) being towed out of the attached garage. This was almost certainly the source of the smell and I would question its legality. The next issue arose Saturday morning when the person sharing a wall with us informed us there was sewage backing up into his living space and possibly in the front yard. The owner showed up quickly with plumbers but we lost water for most the day with no end in sight. Half our party left due to needing water and toilets. We all left Sunday morning, a full day early. I messaged the owner and never got a response to that besides automated messages Monday saying they hope we had a good trip.

Great Location,Great Hosts…but
Pros-Fantastic location from Fairbanks, Responsive and friendly hosts, Beds were very comfortable, wood burning fireplace was an extra surprise and cozy, Large house with room to gather for all 7 of us! Cons- We arrived at 1am and there were cars parked in the garage of the house (they were moved out by 7am), One of the garage door openers was broke so we had to manually open and close, the other garage door didn’t have a control and the outdoor keypad didn’t work so had to close from garage and go thru the front door to leave once pulled car out, House hasn’t been remodeled for a long time, and needs to be. The walls were in need of repair( old holes from previous curtain rods not repaired etc), All the appliances in the kitchen were very old and had quirks in operation. Bathrooms-Only 2 so 7 of us shared. Overall-we had a fantastic time with our family, and had plenty of room to gather. Beds were great! House probably needs a good and proper update with a kitchen remodel.

Northern Lights Trip in January
The home is nicely situated with large yard and has plenty of room to spread out, or spend time together within the house for winter months. We lucked out and had an amazing night of watching the Northern Lights from the driveway, so if the lights are out you will see them. The one draw back we discovered is that the home seems to have an attached apartment that must share a wall with the bottom level bedrooms. We did not realize this and put our lightest sleeper (16 month old and parents) in that room and the neighbors noise woke them up early one morning and several times a different night. With that being said, our two other nights were fine noise wise. It would have been a key detail on booking and/or choosing rooms for our party had we realized that in advance. Diana (Host) is very easy to work with and was quick to answer our questions about spending time in Alaska in January. Thanks Diana!

Great gathering place for family and friends!
So many great things to say about this property! We were visiting Fairbanks for our sons wedding and this home became the meeting place for all friends and family here for the wedding! The house is perfect for large groups as there’s a big, well-outfitted kitchen with bar, large dining table, seating on the hearth, living room comfortable couches, window seat and large deck with padded chairs and a big meeting table! So many small conversations can be going on at the same time! The huge lawn, playhouse and swing set were fun for the small kids who came to visit! Lots of private rooms made it easy for all to have their own space! We loved the big deck, and had the weather been better, we would have enjoyed it even more! The only concern about the property would be to consider the stairs required, both inside the home as well as steps on the outside deck. Anyone who struggles with navigating steps should be aware that the layout of the property and the need for assistance or support to safely move about the property is required. We had a great stay and made a ton of good memories were made! Thank you Diana for your responsiveness and sharing your home!
