Elk Crossings Cabin Rental

Elk Crossings Cabin is located at 9500 ft in the Sanger de Cristo Mountains in Forbes Park, just 12 miles outside the town of Fort Garland, Co. Forbes Park is a private, gated community in southern Colorado located between Walsenburg and Alamosa. Sitting on 13,000 acres, containing about 200 homes, this is the closest you can get to the Rocky mountains from Texas, just a 10 hour drive from Dallas.

The drive up to our beautiful cabin will take your breath away, and the secludedness of the cabin will immediately put you at ease. Enjoy everything from your morning coffee to evening happy hour on the custom built wrap-around deck surrounded by 100+ ft pine trees. The main open area of the cabin is comfortably homey with plenty of windows to enjoy the view, a well equipped kitchen with all needed appliances (gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, etc), a breakfast nook, main bedroom and closet, and a bathroom featuring in-unit laundry and a double headed shower! The couch in the living pulls out to comfortably sleep two, as well. The upstairs loft can sleep up to four, and children under 5 should be supervised in the loft area as the stairs are attic-like. We have stocked the cabin with one double and one single electric-pump inflatable beds.

Our cabin offers the perfect mixture of relaxation and exploration! As for relaxation, enjoy the peace and quite of the mountain while staying connected via complimentary wifi. Available entertainment includes Apple TV with Netflix access, DVD player along with a DVD collection of all movie genres, and a land line with long distance calling. Or perhaps you'd like to sight see, hike, and explore! There is NO hunting allowed within Forbers Park, meaning there is an abundance of wildlife including bears, elk, deer, prairie dogs, coyotes, turkeys, beavers, and all kinds of birds from hummingbirds to jays and finches. . Hiking trails are splattered along the mountains, including the entrance to the San Isabel National Forest, just a half mile away from our cabin! You can see the majestic 14,000 ft Mount Blanca and other high peaks from the park as well.

If you exit the park and make a short drive to Fort Garland, you can go visit some of our favorite adventurous tourist attractions. The Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, the College Town of Alamosa, and the Stations of the Cross in San Luis Valley just to name a few! Wolf Creek Ski Lodge is roughly an hour west of Fort Garland. And located south is Taos, NM, boasting skiing and local shopping, with Red River Ski & Summer Area close by.

Come and bring your family (and pets!) to see the beautiful sights of Colorado and stay in our cabin. The McCarthy family welcomes you to make as many wonderful memories as we have in Elk Crossings Cabin. We hope you enjoy your stay and visit again! We know you’ll want to!

So relaxing
Cabin was perfect for us. Very private. Beautiful property! Listening to the wind blow through the trees was just what we needed; so relaxing and serene. Heard elk calling at night! There were deer every morning and evening in the front and back yard! Everything was perfect.

Read review and consider carefully.
The good: -It was in the area we wanted to be in. The bad: -They listed the internet at 500+ mbs, it buffered too much & speed tests were 80-90 mbs. When I informed owner, they said they didn’t know how the listing said that, that they didn’t even know what the speed was…as if someone else filled out their listing. They said they would check into it, but never got back to us on that, and never offered anything to compensate. We ended up having to alternate doing online business, due to buffering. I called their internet provider, and they have different levels of speeds…owners paid for the slower, but advertised the faster. -Bed is a Queen, against the wall…as its the only place for it, & if the person on that side wanted out, had to climb over the other, have them get up & out of the way, or climb out the foot of the bed. Ridiculously small. -Clothes dryer, in the bathroom, is not vented to the outside, and vents into the bathroom. So you have to open the windows and shut the door, to deal with the heat/moisture. -Overall cleanliness…chose not to place any of our items/clothes, etc, in the drawers or closet, as they weren’t clean, and had the owners, or previous guests items in there…clothes, used tubes of toothpaste, open food, etc. -Missing items…we had to go to the store to get basics like toilet paper and paper towels, which the listing said would be there. They did reimburse us for those items. -Property is listed for sale

Quiet
The 13 mile drive on a bumpy, dirt and gravel road was the only thing we disliked. The previous occupants left an empty detergent container and the closest store was an hour away. The only skillet was so small only one fried egg filled the skillet. Other than that everything was great.

Good for the soul.
This is a great cabin. Well built, very quiet and maintained very well. We had to leave early because of severe weather coming in but we were there a little late in the year for the way we were equipped. The host are great and very responsive. Overall one of the best we have stayed.

Beautiful place
Cabin was beautiful and well maintained. Host was amazing to work with even being out of the country at the time of our stay. Elevation caused some issued for my husbands breathing as we are from Kansas, but that doesn't stop him from wanting to move out to the area at a lower elevation

Beautiful but description was deceiving....
The cabin was surrounded by beautiful, peaceful forest - loved that, but we had 4 adults & the description says there's a loft with "attic like STAIRS" ....there were no stairs, it was an attic carpetted with a LADDER!! Fine for teens, but no way too go up and down every night and morning. Slept on the pull out couch, but had been expecting each couple to have more privacy and comfort. The description definitely needs to be corrected & pictures of the ladder - instead of making it sound like a normal loft with "stairs"

Lovely well maintained log cabin in the woods
It was a beautiful cabin for a younger family with kids. I am a senior citizen and had issues with getting up onto the bed at night. I found a fold-up stool to help me, but I was not secure in using it. There was no where to sit in the small bedroom to get dressed or undressed. I guess that is why the mattress had a large depression on the edge and gave way. We didn't think about not having Phone connections and forgot to get the gate and key access before we arrived. After we got into the cabin of course they had wonderful access to their Wi-Fi. We didn't notice, when we booked how far it was from our property. It was over an hour drive from our place near I-25. In our original Vrbo request, we requested a 25 mile away limit. It was a beautiful quiet cozy cabin, and even though it was cold 30 deg. outside, once we got the chill off the inside with the great little room heaters, we were very comfortable. Even though we didn't use the loft, best for young people or children, it was very cute. My son slept on the couch in the living room very nicely. We saw many mule deer, a very large rabbit, chipmunks, and of course lots of birds. I highly recommend this wonderland log cabin for a young couple or family with youngsters. Thank you for sharing your lovely cabin.

Only thing was not realizing how short the ceiling and how narrow the entrance to the loft. Made it less useful than expected.

White Christmas
As lifelong southerners, our family has always wished for a white Christmas. This year our Christmas present to ourselves and our children was to have a white Christmas. It was a wonderful gift. The cabin had everything we wanted. The double-headed shower was especially nice after exploring out in the snow. The drive in was absolutely beautiful, and the privacy afforded by the cabin location was a plus. We enjoyed our stay, and we would definitely love to come back!

Want to be surrounded by woods, this is your place.
Amazing property! The view was beautiful with a ton of trees around and views of the mountains. We were able to go hiking around the property and enjoyed seeing all of the birds and deer. The house was cozy with a bedroom with a queen sized bed. Then it has a loft accessible by a drop down attic ladder that has tons of room with a queen air mattress and a twin standard mattress. All and all, it was a great experience and if we decide to vacation to that area of Colorado again, this will be our first choice in rental.
