The Hotel is very unique. A different experience. Cool decor. The room we were in was clean looking but definitely smelled like mildew. We only stayed one night so we let it go. The bathroom was so tiny! It reminded me of a bathroom you might see in an RV. The beds were very firm but ok for the night. My husband said the trains kept waking him up, but I never heard them. The elevator was broken so using the steep stairs was unexpected. Overall we would probably stay again on the our way through. The outside of building could really use some updating. Would help alot with appeal!

Cute stop, but won’t stay again.
Check in was easy however we were told upon arrival the elevator isn’t working. My mother is handicapped and our room was on floor 2. Got to the room and even though my confirmation shows I reserved a room with two queens was given a room with one king bed. I went down and let them know, they switched rooms for us to a room with one bed and one pull out couch. That’s fine. The room smelled of sewage the entire time. There is no AC in the hotel anywhere, luckily we didn’t need that. We ate at the restaurant. The services was terrible but the food was great. A little pricey. Great historical place to see, but not the best to stay overnight.

The hotel is absolutely amazingly beautiful and has an incredible amount of history, this hotel is not for everyone because it is not constructed with the newest adminities you have to appreciate the older style and the style form later years , this place was absolutely incredible in every aspect and the service is second to none.

The rooms were old, the floors creaked, I didn’t even see there was a television until the last day! The bathroom was small but the shower was huge! The elevator laws right out of the 1930s with a gate and old time doors! This place is old and comfy and I loved every second I was there! I’d take this old hotel over a new one any day! Great food and service in the dining room! Lovely, lovely!

Historic, fun hotel
Refreshing break from cookie-cutter chains. Very clean. Restaurant was above average. Elevator closed for repairs. Desk clerk was very helpful arranging a room change to 1st floor for our next stay to accommodate my wife who has Parkinson's Disease .

The Bed was like sleeping on a cloud!! It’s a historic property with a museum built in! Incredible food at the restaurant! I had no idea a place like this existed in Gallop. I highly recommend!

Property was cool but the elevator was broken which was not great considering we had 1 huge suitcase for our family of 4. Also the single pane windows kept the room chilly all night even though we cranked the heat higher than normal. Tv service in the room wasn’t great either. Overall, still a cool place that was unique and all, but for us the more important things were just ok. We went through the gift shop but don’t buy anything and did not eat at the restaurant but it was busy.

When you're coming or going from anywhere in the southwest, you are bound to go through Gallup and when you do, stay at El Rancho. This big, beautiful old historic hotel with so much richness is a sight to behold. The big old fashioned rooms in the main building, or the restored motel rooms in the adjacent building, invoking the romance and beauty of route 66, you can't go wrong either way. If you can, visit over the holidays when they have a giant fire going in the fireplace in the lobby, and a tree probably 25 ft tall and all the decorations up in the big, rustic communal lobby. Enjoy a cocktail out there from the bar, or read a book in a comfortable chair and just be part of it all. Great service. Really nice folks. And you're staying in an Historical gem.

The property is located in a noisy area with lots of motorists and motorcycles. There are transient people in the area. This is an historic property which was a movie making hub in the 1930s and 40s. It is still operational as a museum to that time. Updates needed although it is clean and the people are nice.
