Experience Ranch Life In the West!
Have you ever wanted to stay in a historic cabin on a ranch in Montana? Do you prefer peace and quiet? This cabin is located in a secluded place surrounded by nature and 2 streams, with no other cabins in sight. This cabin does not have cell service or wifi, but there is a land line. Truly unplug and get away from it all.
We raise American Quarter Horses, and generally have at least one new foal every summer. Last summer our cabin guests were fortunate enough to witness the birth! The ranch is also home to chickens, pigs, cows, dogs, and cats.
Enjoy horseback riding in the mountains, watching the pigs wallow in the mud, watching wranglers bring the horses in from the fields, watching calves play while their mothers graze, watching a farrier put shoes on a horse, seeing the newborn foals, hiking on the many acres the ranch has to offer, viewing wildlife in their natural habitat- these are a few of the many of the activities that go on here on a daily basis!
The Stermitz Ranch History
Rob's great grandfather, Joseph, was born in Slovenia, Austria in 1862 and worked in the coal mines from the age of 9. He later immigrated here from Slovenia with his wife and two children in 1892, following the promise of work in coal mines in Montana. When they arrived he was not able to find work. Joseph used his last $10 to buy a rifle in order to hunt to be able to feed his family. While here, a fire broke out in the Cokedale mines. Joe helped put out the fires and was noticed by the mine boss who asked 'who is that good worker?' Someone explained that it was an immigrant who couldn't find work. The mine boss then said 'Put that man to work. Anyone who works that hard for no pay deserves a job. The family, along with the addition of three more children, moved to the ranch in Cinnabar Basin in 1900.
