Look, California city sucks. There's nothing prestigious about it. But, if you're there and you need a place to stay? This place is solid. Its clean, its's quiet, the breakfast is good (they have meat), the staff are great and the rooms are a notch and a half over average. If you get lucky enough you can pick a pomegranate out of their bushes.

Avoid first floor
The person who checked us in was super nice. We enjoyed using the pool in the evening. The problem came when we saw bugs in the room. The worst was a large cockroach that I saw when I went to the bathroom at 1:30 AM. We called the front desk who put us into a room on the second floor. The person was perfectly nice. He indicated that bugs can be an issue on the first floor. Unfortunately we lost a lot of sleep that night. We do not totally blame the hotel. It is, after all, in the middle of the desert. However, we do feel that weather stripping and sealing off the hotel should be especially important as a result of the location. It would have also been helpful had they warned us at checkin.
