Dunecastle - Private Setting and Coastal Views (no direct dune access)

"The view from the deck was outstanding. Very close to the dunes. BEAUFUTUL house. Will stay again. Will recommend to everyone who wants to come to North Bend with a big group!" - Denice, Aug 2020

Experience the seclusion and serenity of this large house surrounded by nature. It is in a quiet, private location with a lake, dune, and ocean view. You will not have to leave the house to enjoy the Oregon Coast view, but you must drive to the dunes or beach via car or highway. This house is very special, and we ask all guests to stay with care.

This is a custom house built in the 1980s. Some of the redwood timbers used to build the house were from an old mill in Northern California. To access the house, there is a half-mile of gravel road off Highway 101. The gravel road may have potholes or children playing, so drive slowly. There is no direct access to the dunes. You have to trailer your OHVs to a nearby staging area.

Guests will have access to the entire house, except no access to the garages or outbuildings. Please respect the 2 neighbors who also live along the road and do not enter their private property.

The shower in the master bathroom has a large window. This can make guests nervous, but the window is on the back side of the house with a view of the dunes and ocean. It is located on a secluded part of the deck that only your guest can access.

Living with wildlife: Small bats roost in the cedar siding in spring and summer. We recommend closing windows and doors without screens at night to keep them outside. If a bat gets in the house, stay calm. It doesn't want to be in the house and will fly around looking for an escape. It will tuck itself into the vaulted ceilings in the loft. Let us know if this happens, but due to the height of the ceilings, there are no guarantees we can remove the bat.

We live nearby, so we are a call away if you need us. Otherwise, you will have your privacy.
During your stay at this holiday home, you're just a quick walk from Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Enjoy features like an arcade/games room. A kitchen and 3 bathrooms are available in the holiday home.
  • The holiday home offers a kitchen, a washing machine and 3 bathrooms
  • Steps from Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and Siuslaw National Forest
Dunecastle - Private Setting and Coastal Views (no direct dune access) offers its guests barbecue grills, an arcade/games room, and a garden. The front desk is open around the clock.

Fantastic weekend at the Dunecastle
We were fortunate enough to be here on a beautiful weekend with blue skies and comfortable warm weather in late September. The home has beautiful large-window views of the forest, lakes, dunes and distant ocean. The home is secluded so you don’t have to worry about bothering the neighbors or being quiet at a certain time. The home had lots of nice touches, the beds were comfortable, and everything worked well. There was plenty of parking for the five vehicles. We were there with a group of 9 people

Sweet secluded spot!
A group of us celebrating a couple 40th birthdays had a blast at this giant house! Quiet and away from everyone, yet a close drive to Coos Bay or Charleston bay.

Beautiful views, not very clean
The house had cob webs in every corner, very out-dated, smelled of mold. Most windows didn’t have screens, screen doors were broken or ripped. Other than that, the property manager was very kind and communicative. I just think the house needs a good deep clean and a little updating/renovation.

Loved / Disappointed
Although a great location, private, and quirky 70’s house … * When we walked in the strong musty smell was hard to ignore. Immediately opened all of the windows. The laundry room smelled of mildew. Left windows open most of the time, musty smell not as strong. * Deck was awesome, but in need of maintenance/repair. Several boards were rotten. Moved benches over those areas to prevent walking on. Paint chipped and peeling. * Threshold from dining room to kitchen was split, broken and loose. Covered with rug to prevent tripping. * Lower windows in dining rm smeared with child handprints, looked like they had played in syrup. * Cobwebs in many of the windows. * There was rodent poison in the top drawer of desk in one of the bedrooms. Downstairs bedroom smelled particularly bad, like something dead. * Shower curtain in one bathroom looked like someone got into a fight with it, was all twisted up and hanging off several of the hooks. * No blender as advertised. Called contact number as instructed, left message asking for assistance to locate blender. Did not receive a call back. The living room area had great seating, nice library, and fabulous view. Kitchen was large, plenty of room for gathering and cooking. Loved the double sinks and bank of windows.

Yearly Dunes Trip
Todd and Greta were great hosts, the house was just as listed. We loved the location without any neighbors extremely close to be bothered by our kids. Would recommend this house for all functions. Lots of parking for trailers down the hill before the house in the field. Not a lot of room up at the house to turn a trailer around, plan on disconnecting your trailer in the field below the house to make it easier if you have more than one trailer in your group. We had 3 20’ plus long trailers and did not know what the parking was at the house.

Cabin In The Woods
The home was as described. Very large and spread out. You don’t feel like you are on top of each other. She has been well loved over the years and we found her quirky and mysterious. So, not everything is in pristine shape but she was fully stocked. If you like an aged wine and appreciate good bones with breathtaking views, then look no further. Only down side was we had an unexpected visitor but we’re able to scoot him out the door. Only after he scared the life out of us for knocking over the fire wood and farting towards us.

So much space!
We had plenty of space for our family of 8. We had family members that live in the area come out to visit and the house was accommodating for that. The view is spectacular and the house is totally private from any neighbors! I would stay here again!

Annual trip to Southwest Oregon
We come up every year to stay in the area. Usually we do a motel in Reedsport. This time we decided to get a house for logistical purposes. Dune Castle exceeded our expectations with its size and location gorgeously perched atop Beale Lake with views to the Pacific. We found the house great for adults and children. Perfect for cooking breakfast, bbq or reading on the loft enjoying the volume of the space and epic sunsets. Location was great medt to Steve’s ATVs which the kids loved and close by to Hilltop House and Clausen Oysters. The laundry room was excellent. The wrap around deck was another cool feature enabling guests to pop out for fresh air and view no matter where you are in the house. Thanks for having us. We would certainly stay again.

Sibling Reunion
Coming from a large family of 8 siblings, we gather together annually to tell stories, offer different perspectives of our formative years and just to catch up with the passing of time. This property also allowed the joining in by a sister who lives in Coos Bay. Excellent facility, well presented, clean and very welcoming for what we experienced. Good times.
