Dissatisfied
My family and I book a week long stay in the UP every year, we usually pick a new area to explore. This year's vacation was very disappointing. The bugs were absolutely awful, and trust me I know the UP has bugs, but it was to the point of we couldn't even be outside even with bug spray on. I wish the owners would spray/fog regularly to help with this. Also the paddle boat and canoe were both dirty with bugs and bird poop to the point of us have to clean before use, we left the canoe alone after cleaning paddle boat. The guest house is set up very weird with the shower in the bedroom which made it difficult for use. The main house lighting was terrible, to the point of once it got dark outside you practically couldn't see inside either with the lights on. Also the cupboard space was almost not existing because they had soo many dishes packed in them. I appreciate the use of kitchen utensils, however out of what was there isn't practical for use. It just took up way to much space, to the point of the food we brought had to stay on the kitchen counters where they got covered in ants, and also read after we were there that they have "a friendly mouse issue" and no where to put our food up. The garbe can is also far enough away from the house that we had to drive to it. Very choppy set-up. I'm sad we spent as much as we did on it after seeing it in person and being stuck inside most of the time in the dark because of the million bugs and poor inside lighting. My family won't be visiting again!!!

Beautiful place to get away!
This place was truly paradise! The only categories that I gave a 4 instead of 5 was because when I'd ask a question through vrbo, it did not get to the property manager. Once he emailed me, we were able to communicate but if I put a message in the app, it went unanswered. And I was given two different codes for the lock so when I got there I was eaten alive by mosquitos while I tried to work a combination that was incorrect. So be sure to read all of the check-in instructions that you receive before you get there so you don't make the same mistake! The cabin is fully stocked with everything you would need, and then some! Be prepared for mosquitos... I've never had so many bites at once! But it was well worth it and if away from the bushes and trees, can be managed with repellent. We thoroughly enjoyed stargazing on an air mattress, listening to a symphony of bullfrog in the background. If you don't like the taste of well-water, be sure to bring water with you! Leaving was hard. We can't wait to come back!

Great Family Get Away
We orginally rented this property as a halfway point to meet friends from Toronto. With the boarder still being closed. Just my husband and our 2 teenage daughters went. We did not even use the guest cabin, but would have been perfect for our larger group. The cabins are very rustic. There is no AC, but owner provides many high quality fans. We also brought 3 of our own and were glad we did for late July. The weather was pretty hot and sticky. Made for some perfect beach days. We also took some day trips to Mackinac, Soo Locks, and Tahquamonen Falls. All less than an hour car ride. Cabin had most every kind of utensil/pot/pan etc. Only thing I would bring is a griddle if you are making pancakes/french toast and cooking spray for the pans. There are ice cube trays...lots of them to make ice. There are roasters for marshmellows. The store in town is pretty limited, but had charcoal, lighter fluid and other essentials we needed. Plan to bring most all your food though! Sleeping accommodations were very comfortable. Kids loved the bunk room (where the extra fans were needed...hot pretty stuffy...didn't prevent any teenagers from sleeping though!!!) Lots of bath, hand, and dish towels. Great shower in main cabin, lots of water pressure and fast hot water. Shed has a wagon to bring things to the lake. No need to bring life jackets unless you have small kids or ones that actually wear them. Plenty of orange ones for a canoe or paddle boat ride. Lake is very shallow and sandy. Was great for putting chairs in the water, floating (bring your own) or playing catch. Yes there were bugs, we are from MN, so we are used to it. Bring spray, they really were not horrible during the day. Other reviews have stated that the cabins are musty...they are a bit. With no AC...things are damp, no way around it. Sort of what you get with a Northern lake/woods experience. There are lots of air freshners and if you open the windows in the evening and over night it airs out pretty good. Would highly recommend for large families or a couple families. It is a great property!

Relaxing oasis at Trout Lake
Had a great time at the property at Tout Lake. Was able to swim and do some canoeing, paddle boating. Lake was warm to swim in. Nice large yard area to play lawn games. Fire pit were nice to have campfires at night. Charcoal grills to cook up some ribs and brisket. At our time we needed to prepare for some mosquitoes in morning and early evening.

Family Celebration Getaway
Trout Lake is a very beautiful. The property was very well maintained, and my family enjoyed each and every day. The cabin was very spacious, and plenty of room for the 9 of us. We were very appreciative of being allowed to use the canoe and paddle boat. The location of the cabin was about 45 minutes from Mackinac Island and about 1 and 45 minutes from Pictured Rocks. Would highly recommend this getaway. Bring you Off Road toys and boat.

Private, Comfortable, Family-Friendly Cottage
Our family enjoyed the peace and tranquility of this Hidden Paradise. The large familyroom was comfortable for our family of ten to play games and relax. The yard was perfect for volleyball, cornhole and disc golf (we brought along a portable basket). The guest cottage allowed our teenagers to be able to stay up late while our younger ones went to bed. The lake was knee deep for quite a distance making it difficult to truly swim, but the younger ones loved being able to be all over in the water. Our family enjoyed time out in the paddle boat and the canoe.

Paradise in the UP
Hidden Paradise was a perfect U.P. vacation for our family and friends. The cabin was spacious, rustic and clean. The big windows made it feel like you were integrated with the outdoors. The guest cabin was perfect for one family and the kids loved the bunk room. Trout lake was more than I expected. The beach was perfect for the 2 yr old and the lake was clean. We didn't have much luck fishing but floated and swam every day. We were blessed to be there for the annual fireworks and enjoyed a beach fire that evening. This cabing is close to Sault St. Marie, The Mystery spot, Garland Zoo, Tahquemenon Falls, Soo Locks. The grocery store is small so bring lots of food.

It really is a Hidden Paradise in the U.P.!
This home is aptly named Hidden Paradise! We have stayed here the last two summers and hope to spend many more summers here as well! The house is clean and the grounds are well kept, the kitchen is amply stocked with dishes, pots, pans, cooking, utensils, and small appliances. The refrigerator is huge and can easily hold enough food for a week. Also plenty of thick, plush towels! The main house is spacious for large groups and the guest house is very clean, cozy, and not musty at all. The owner provides big lanterns to help guests find their way between the buildings after dark and the walkways around the house are all well lit; some with motion sensor lights. The owner and caretaker are both very quick to respond. The owner is very conscientious about the property and works hard to maintain and improve it. When I arrived this year, I breathed in a huge breath of relaxation! It is so beautiful here. The huge windows make you feel like you're always outside. I would have been content to sit around the property all week and never go anywhere. But we're an active bunch and there are lots of trails for riding quads, places to go and things to see. We took some amazing rides to the Cut River Bridge, Lake Superior, Paradise, Strong, and all through the Hiawatha Forest. There is a small dune to ride just around the corner about 3 minutes down the trail. We picked wild blueberries along the trails, too. The beach is a great, too, although you might want to bring along some bug spray some days. There are beach chairs in the storage shed and even a wagon to haul them down there. (the owner thinks of everything!) You can read a book, sit & sip a beverage, build a fire in the fire pit, and canoe or paddle boat around the lake. All of us including the teenagers love this place! There is always something to do outside and at night we had great family time making smores and hobo pies around the fire pit at the house and playing board games inside after dark. If you're looking for place that's a step back in time tucked into a beautiful, secluded setting - this is it!

Not maintained. Overgrown and unkept.
The house and guesthouse was moldy. Our guests had to sleep in the living room of the main cottage because all other sleeping areas were smelly and moldy causing breathing problems. We had mice in the kitchen all week. Couldn't trap them but spent a bit of $ trying too. We would not stay at this property again nor would we recommend it to anyone!

Wonderfully Splendid, Relaxing, and Educational!!!
Overall, the cabins and grounds were amazing and it was central to many area attractions, making sightseeing of numerous areas possible. The only suggestion I would have is to find a way to combat the mildew/musty smell in the guest cabin, which affected allergies (if this is even possible). It was incredibly strong and overpowering during rainy periods. Otherwise, the cabins were very clean and well equipped, making our stay comfortable.
