The Inn is beautiful but run down. Our room was cold with light blankets provided. Every sheet of wallpaper was peeling. The bathroom vanity was so small, hair in the bathroom and a drain that was dislodged. But the worst thing is that the do not disturb sign was on the door, and the housekeeper knocked on the door to ask if we would leave early because the next guests were there already. I verified that check out was at 11:00, but at 9:45 this inquiry was made. It was made very clear to me with the directions that check-in was at 3:00, so why was I being rushed out? While there is lots of potential my expectations were not met especially given the price.

Overall stay was fine- biggest problem is lack of elevator service and when one is 82y/o, that is a problem. But the town is charming and a fun place to visit.

Loved this hotel! It was built in I think 1786, so it had that nostalgic feel. The elevator is something from the late 1800's to early 1900's and the floor in my room was actually slanted, but I thought it was all pretty cool. The free breakfast could've been a little better but I was able to make do with some cheese, toast, and coffee. The Cafe Provence around the corner was really good; enjoyed a nice dinner with a glass of their Octoberfest brew, which was tasty and hit the spot. I would definitely not hesitate to stay at this hotel for multiple nights and will hopefully be back in the future with my family.

Minimal comfort and amenities.
We were placed on the 4th floor. There was a hotel employee run elevator, but no one was available. All 4 of us are in our 70s, lugging suitcases up 4 flights of stairs, and claw foot high bathtubs were hard to navigate. . Free breakfast was very minimal, bread, yogurt, fruit. Each room was decorated in vintage style, very cute!

The front desk clerk was very nice but he didn’t find all the reservations ( we had 5 rooms ). No heat in the room. You had to wait for the clerk from the front desk to operate the elevator ( very small and old ) The bathroom was very small and no hot water in the sink Some rooms had only very small showers

We stayed for one night. The staff was very friendly and eager to help. The complimentary breakfast offered many choices and a lovely area in which to eat. The downtown is walkable and quaint with several restaurants and shops. A pleasant find for a fall getaway.

Beautiful old place right in the center of town!
Best part is the location. Restaurants, bars and art galleries right outside your door. Had everything you needed Everything was also very clean. Great stay for the money.

An old Grand Hotel in authentic condition but modernized just enough for comfort and ease. Room is spacious and comfortable. Staff is helpful. The small Vermont town is lovely and interesting. Not many dining options but OK.

A ton of history in this 200 year old inn. The owner is wonderful. Super easy to get to Middlebury and other places in central Vermont. Gorgeous town. I slept like a baby in our relaxing and clean room.

The room had a really strong musty smell. We had to open the bathroom window when we were in the room (the only window that would open), but the screen was badly torn and let in biting insects. My wife had five serious bites. The floor under the carpet was badly torn up .. to the point that it was a serious hazard with several high areas and depressions. Could easily cause serious falls. My wife and I generally like older hotels, but this was expensive and not in condition to be habitable.

Bathrooms need to be updated. Pedistal sink with separate hot and cold water faucets. No safety grips to get in or out of tub/shower. Had to walk up and down the stairs, elevator only used if staff is present to operate. Sleigh bed blocked view of the TV if watching from bed.

It’s an old historical building, they keep it very clean, check-in text was convenient, locks on older doors need some work, continental breakfast was adequate but nothing special, good coffee, good location.
