We arrived before the designated check-in time and requested the receptionist for an early check-in. She mentioned that there were no rooms ready, but still requested my information, so I provided my complete name. She requested my name once more, mentioning that it was not in the system. Next, I presented her with the confirmation and receipt I had received via email and on my Expedia account. After glancing at my confirmation email/receipt, she continues to claim that my name wasn't in the system despite me spelling it out for her. When I inquired about the name on the system, she instantly changed her tone and said that it was in the system after all. Messing around like that completely changed my perception of the hotel as what could have been a smooth experience with excellent customer service ended up leaving a bad impression. A 4 star hotel must have excellent customer service and should not have unfriendly receptionists representing the hotel. Another criticism is that they should offer at least two bottles of water in the room since it is a 4-star establishment and there was a lack of amenities in the bathroom. Therefore, considering the price paid, it would be advisable to seek accommodation elsewhere with better services as this hotel resembles more of a 3-star rating.

Really convenient location if you are driving to York. Lovely riverside walk into the centre. We were able to leave our car there for the whole of the day of checkout so got to spend another full day of our weekend in York

The Novotel is a great hotel for a weekend in York. Resaonably priced, clean, nice bar area. Its a 10 minute walk into the town centre and 5 minutes to the Barbican theatre if your their for a show. Highly recommend

Okay but probably better value elsewhere
We stayed in the executive suite, plenty of room and looked smart however there were only 2 plug sockets for charges/phones unless you had a cable which has a usb slot then there were plenty. The shower didn’t drain properly and the streaming service on telly didn’t work (Netflix etc). There are additional charges also for parking and the breakfast was limited. Full English was available but the sausages were very pink and put me off eating it.

Another fantastic stay at Novotel!
The hotel was generally extremely clean. Except for a few dirty stains on the bedroom carpet next to the bin. Rooms would benefit from the addition of a toilet brush. Staff are amazing very helpful and griendly. The refurbished pool ans sauna are a valued addition to the hotel. Will not stay anywhere else when staying in York!
