I completely love the Hotel Du Vin chain, however, my experience in Brighton was fairly awful.
Our room was a bit of a disappointment from the second we arrived. The woodwork on the desks etc. was rather scuffed, scruffy and tired and not really the standard you would expect. Silly little things like only 1 towel being hung out in the bathroom, only one pillow each on the bed etc. that were just surprising.
That being said the bathroom was lovely as was the rest of the hotel so we thought we would probably have a lovely time.
Sadly, after going out for a nice dinner we returned to the hotel to sleep. A key function of a hotel.. it was not to be. The bed was embarrassingly awful. I mean, not fit for sleeping on awful. It sunk deeply in the middle, provided no support and would have been embarrassing for a fleapit BnB let alone a hotel of Hotel Du Vin's standing.
After an exceptionally bad nights sleep we dragged ourselves down to reception to check out. I told the front desk (who were lovely) about the bed and suggested they did not rent that room out again until they had fixed it. They expressed their apologies and said they would get a manager to call me later in the day.
Since then I have had a very brusk message on Expedia to say they will fix it before my next stay (poor guests in between!). Overall a very disappointing stay and post stay customer service at what is normally a very high quality hotel group.
