A little disappointed
Ideal location next to station and city centre. Impressive lobby area and sweeping staircase give off a very grand feel, however not matched by our accommodation. Internal room so no windows other than one with frosted glass onto corridor. Meant it was quite gloomy. Room was tired and in need of an update. Shower not particularly powerful. Bed was comfortable though.

A hotel with amazing history and architecture but run down to the point where paint is flaking off the walls. Mould in bedrooms and bathroom. Uncomfortable beds. Not satisfied at all with hotel

Great food, bad bed
Stayed one night and ate in the restaurant. My meal was excellent but beer choice was not great. Guinness in cans for example. Staff were great. Real downside was the mattress in my room which was just awful. It’s not great when you sit on the edge of the bed and your bum hits the hard part because the mattress is so weak. Room was a single and the bed was small double.

Good location, fair price. The room was on the small side, the bathroom in particular felt cramped. The room was too hot for me even with the radiator off (early Nov) and although the window did open there was no way to latch it open to cool the room down.

Lovely hotel, fantastic to see so many of its original features still in place, the staircase with beautiful Chandeliers, is just stunning. Staff were efficient, friendly and welcoming. Conveniently located for station, Metro, waterfront. A grand old hotel which has retained it's style. It is a bit dated and tired in places, but for me that adds to the charm. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Breakfast was of a good standard and the staff met my dietary requirements without drama, delay or disappointment. The bar is pleasant for a drink in the evening, however, I would prefer if they stocked gluten free beer. The room was clean and had everything I needed. The single was a small double bed which was appreciated. My room was on the 5th floor and the water pressure was low in the sink, I didn't try the shower as I washed at the leisure facilities The leisure facilities are in an adjoining building. I didn't use the gym, but it looked fine. There is small pool, steam room, sauna, cold plunge pool and jacuzzi. Not swimming costumes are required in the spa area. It's an old building and the changing facilities are upstairs. If you find stairs a challenge be aware that there steps at the front, but level access at the side near the leisure club. The lift only goes to the 4th floor. You have to walk up to the 5th. In summary I enjoyed my stay, the staff really contributed to my experience. I would definitely book again.

I booked hotel room for my wife who had travelled all the way from Dorchester to the Royal Station Hotel Newcastle -upon-Tyne. I am extremely disappointed by the level of customer service. She was given a room on 4th floor which didn’t have a lift and she had to carry her suitcase on her own to her room. She wasn’t offered any assistance. Room was small and in her words “like a hostel room” . The room was less than satisfactory for the price and unlike any of the rooms and amenities described on the website. The room was not sound proof and noise from trains kept her awake.

Was an overnight stay, Hotel was very satisfying for the one night stay. Close to the train station. Easy to walk around the city. Very large hotel. We had 2 rooms but weren't next to each other, pretty much on opposite ends of the hotel
